Look, Resident Evil 6 isn’t a good game, but it’s sure an underrated one. If you accept it for what it is—Resident Evil by way of Michael Bay—then it’s only half bad. By the time Wesker’s son jumps a motorcycle over a helicopter, you’ll be numb enough to the game’s ridiculousness for it to become charming.
RE6 in general has a lot of references and tributes to previous main titles. While it lacks horror it's a really well made action co-op game, and is my all time favorite of this genre. The only REs you can take semi-seriously are 2,3, CV and REmake. The other stuff is as wacky and cheesy as original RE1.
Resident Evil 6 is Capcom's way of appealing to the action gamers who play fast-paced shoot em' ups, which are a large part of the gaming industry at the moment. Seriously, even decent acted ones like RE2make or 8 got a few weird choices or performances that were meh at times but I can't think of a single bad line delivery on 6. The script is dumb as rocks but all the voice actors were in their top game. Even Simmons actor is great, sometimes they botch the villain in these games but on 6 all were good.
The genre shifts. Old Resident Evil games used to be horror survival games, but RE6 (and RE5) are just straight up action games, so a lot of fans were annoyed by this change. The whole plot is very stupid and poorly written. RE games all have weird elements to them, but in RE6 that stupidity is intensified to an extreme.
