Posted January 1, 2020. Newly-purchased 2010 Focus Zetec 100 1.6 Petrol: Occasionally, the engine malfunction warning comes up with accompanying audible alarm. It seems to happen at random, although usually early in a journet. Turning off the ignition and turning it back on again resets it, but there is obviously a fault somewhere. I have a 62 reg Ford Focus 1.6 tdci Titanium X that intermittently reports with a message that reads " Park Aid Malfunction service Required " and i lose all power on the doors ie no central lockinkg no power too windows boot won't open and the only way too lock it is with the key inside the key fob . Whenever I accelerate in 4th or 5th gear the power seems to come in pulses but again not overly powerful. Tonight whilst joining the motorway, again with the car feeling sluggish, the engine malfunction warning appeared on the trip computer followed by the
visual. if the warning light comes on there is a fault and its stored in computer turning off the warning light and it comes back is just confirming something is wrong. go to a reputable garage or dealer and ask them to read the fault codes. the objective should be track down the fault rather than just trick car into not displaying the warning
Focus 1.6 tdci titanium , year :2010 126k miles it has had a recent oil change and belts are done , no bad smells or noise and it seems to sound ok . I was only going at lowish speed , not over 2000 revs Going out this morning in the cold but not freezing ,after a mile i got 'Engine Malfunction'

This is a very common problem with any Ford Focus that was built between 2012 and 2013 that was fitted with 1.0-litre Ecoboost. The problem is caused by a leaking coolant, and it needs a new 'Degas' hose fitted. You can fairly easily check yourself if the Degas hose has been fitted, and if it isn't, you can get one with us.

I've resently had the 'Engine Malfunction' light appear and the EML with the P2584 code (fuel additive control module) and sure enough on inspection I've found my Eloys tank to be empty! I've refilled it and reset the EML but the Engine Malfuntion light and bleeper still operate so think I will try my skills next with the 'Forscan' software.

Had my 2012 Focus (petrol 1.0 ecoboost) serviced recently and the day after the service I had the Engine Malfunction Light - service Now message come up on the dashboard. Took it back to the garage and they checked for codes and couldn't find anything, told me to keep an eye on it.
